Dr. Griffith Buck's Roses
Dr. Griffith Buck developed many varieties of hardy, fragrant, and beautiful roses during his time as a professor of horticulture at Iowa State University. He worked to introduce hardiness into the hybrid tea, grandiflora and floribunda types via genes from hardier species and varieties. As a respected member of the rose growers association and the rose growers community Dr. Buck was not only renowned for developing varieties such as Carefree Beauty and Pearlie Mae but also for his dedication to the industry. In recognition of Dr. Buck's accomplishment, a collection of these roses is being established at the new Reiman Gardens in Ames, Iowa.

Buck roses are very hardy. Most do very well in Iowa without winter protection. Most of them are either recurrent or continuous bloomers and most are quite fragrant.
