has been breeding roses for over 35 years, concentrating particularly on disease-resistance. In fact, he says: "I am very radical in throwing out seedlings with good form and color, but which are very prone to mildew and blackspot. Many of my rose friends always tell me : Don't be so radical, you may throw out a future A.A.R.S. winner.(Note: Roses in AARS test gardens get sprayed regularly every 10 to 14 days.) My roses have to go without spraying for at least a month."
Regardless of this, he has still produces some gorgeous roses, including the popular Canadian White Star. See his roses at Hortico or on his site, George Mander's Roses of Excellence. You'll also find a series of his articles there.
